On 24 February 2003 a Cessna-402B aircraft, belonging to Edhi Air Ambulance Services (EAAS), was hired for a chartered flight from Karachi to Jazzak (310°/ 400 NM from Karachi) by Star Air Aviation. The hiring was on behalf of M/s MCC Resource Development Company (Pvt) Limited (MRDL), a Chinese Company operating in Pakistan. The aircraft had eight passengers on board including the pilot. The Captain of the aircraft was Captain Syed Sajid Ali, Chief Pilot Edhi Air Ambulance Services. The aircraft took off from Karachi at 0811 Pakistan Standard Time (PST). The aircraft was being radar vectored. At 0820 PST the radar controller asked the aircraft (Cessna 4028, Reg # AP-BFG) to turn right on heading 290°. The acknowledgement of this heading was the last recorded transmission from the aircraft. At 0829 PST the aircraft was observed disappearing from the radarscope, 270°/35 NM from Karachi Radar. Search and Rescue services were launched to look for the aircraft around the last radar position. The first signs of wreckage were found by a Naval Helicopter at 1133 PST, about 5 NM North West of Churna Island. While the aircraft wreckage was recovered on 27 February 2003, five bodies were recovered about four hours after the accident and a sixth body was washed ashore on 09 March 2003.
