Airbus 310-, registration number AP-BGP was on its first scheduled flight on 31sᵗ March 2005 from Karachi to Dubai. The airbus had been on a major maintenance known as "Check C" for last 17 days in Base Maintenance, PIAC Engineering. Three engineers from Base Maintenance were on board to see aircraft behavior after the first flight. Aircrew observed few snags including burning smell during taxiing. Just after take off the "Electronic Centralized Aircraft Monitoring" (ECAM) system displayed a warning indicating presence of smoke in Avionics/ Min Equipment Bay. The cockpit crew aborted the flight as per their check list. On ground, the defect was not confirmed hence after technical checks, the aircraft was released for same flight after one hour. The Airbus was airborne again, but, soon landed back due to exactly the same defect. It caused lot of physical and mental agony to passengers who were on board since boarding for the flight first time. The aircraft was grounded by CAA Safety Investigation Board for detailed investigation and repair work.
