On October 10, 1983, a Mohawk OV-1D (tail No. 17020) was part of a four-aircraft ferry flight from the U.S.A. to South Korea. While departing Karachi for Bombay at 1134 PST, the aircraft experienced a starboard engine failure shortly after takeoff while passing through 300 feet. The aircraft was unable to maintain altitude at its low height. The pilot steered the aircraft toward an uninhabited open area before both occupants—the pilot and a mechanic—ejected safely with only superficial injuries. The aircraft crashed and was destroyed by impact forces and a post-impact fire.
