On December 13, 2021, Airblue flight ABQ 611, an Airbus A321 operating from Dubai to Peshawar, experienced a Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) Resolution Advisory (RA) while holding over the Peshawar VOR. Because Peshawar is a joint civil-military airfield, the air traffic controller had instructed the flight to hold at Flight Level (FL) 160 due to military traffic. During the hold, a conflict with a formation of two fighter aircraft—which had been cleared to climb through the civil flight's altitude—triggered the collision warning, forcing the Airblue flight to climb to FL 175 to avoid the aircraft. After reporting multiple traffic advisories and observing six military aircraft overhead, the flight was safely cleared to descend and completed a successful approach and landing at Peshawar.
