On July 6, 1984, a Cessna-421/B aircraft (Reg. No. AP-AYQ), owned and operated by the Government of Baluchistan, crashed near Mankera while en route from Islamabad to Quetta. The flight encountered adverse weather conditions, causing the pilot to deviate from the planned track and report abeam Mianwali rather than overhead. During the flight, the pilot requested and received approval from Mianwali ATC to descend from FL 160 to FL 95, and later to 4,500 ft. However, the Air Traffic Control Officer did not provide the local atmospheric pressure, nor did the pilot request it, which is critical for accurate altimeter settings during descent. At 1655 PST, the pilot informed ATC of a diversion to Multan, but all communication was lost following a final transmission a minute later. The aircraft was destroyed by the impact and a post-impact fire. Three of the four occupants, including the pilot and co-pilot, sustained fatal injuries; Lt. General Sardar F.S. Lodi, the Governor of Baluchistan, survived with serious injuries.
