On December 1, 1984, at 1315 hours, a PIA catering van (No. 429) was loading aircraft AP-AXM for flight PK-385, which was scheduled for departure at 1400 hours. The sequence of the incident was as follows: Guidance: After loading was complete, Marshaller Mr. Abdullah Khokhar guided the vehicle. Misjudgment: Believing the catering van was clear of the aircraft, the Marshaller signaled the driver, Mr. Ali Ahmed, to drive the vehicle away. Collision: In reality, the vehicle was not clear of the aircraft. Because it was impossible for the driver to see the top portion of the van from his seat, he followed the Marshaller's instructions and drove forward. Damage: The top left-hand corner of the catering van struck the trailing edge of the aircraft's right-hand wing tip, resulting in minor damage.
