On May 29, 1985, Pakistan International Airlines Flight PK-725, an Airbus A-300 (Registration AP-BBM) piloted by Captain A.Q. Bhurgari, experienced a landing gear retraction failure immediately following its 1759 local time takeoff from Karachi Airport for a scheduled flight to Riyadh. After multiple unsuccessful attempts to raise the landing gear using both primary and alternate electrical systems, recycling the circuit breakers, and executing the abnormal checklist, the flight crew aborted the route and elected to perform an overweight landing back at Karachi. Following a low pass over the control tower to visually verify that the landing gear was safely extended, the aircraft landed on runway 25R, during which two tires burst on the landing roll before it came to a stop on taxiway Alfa. All passengers and crew members safely disembarked onto the taxiway via passenger steps without any injuries or fire, and the aircraft was towed to the hangar for repairs after remaining on the taxiway for six hours.
