On September 5, 1985, a major ground accident occurred on the disused Bravo Taxiway at Islamabad Airport when a severe thunderstorm and hail, accompanied by forecast wind gusts of 35 knots or more, broke the mooring lines of two parked Pakistan International Airlines (PIAC) Twin Otter aircraft. Despite having been lashed prior to the storm following a meteorological warning from PAF Chaklala, Twin Otter AP-BCH was partially lifted off the ground from its position at nose wheel marking point No. 2, snapping a single wing rope tied to its mooring stone. Its left wing dragged along the ground and collided with the second parked Twin Otter, AP-ACG, causing major structural damage to both aircraft. Additionally, an adjacent Fokker F-27 (AP-AUX) parked at Bay No. 6 was moved 10 feet by the storm, resulting in deflated main tires on its left landing gear but no structural damage. Following a morning inspection by the investigator-in-charge and a Senior Airworthiness Surveyor, authorization was given to clear the scene by 0900 local time.
