On November 20, 1985, a Rawalpindi Flying Club Cessna 337 (Registration No. AP-BBT), commanded by Captain Mazhar Ali and carrying a five-person crew including a TV documentary team, completed flights to Peshawar and Kohat before experiencing a major accident during its final departure from Kohat Airport at 1646 local time. The Chief Flying Instructor (C.F.I.), Raja Rauf, who was technically a passenger on this leg, was permitted to perform the takeoff from the right-hand seat but utilized only the final 1,500 feet of the runway. Immediately after liftoff at an altitude of 50 feet, the aircraft began mushing as the fuel flow on both engines dropped sharply from 85 pounds to 60 pounds. To avoid an oncoming concrete pole in the flight path, Raja Rauf pulled back on the control column, causing the stall warning horn to sound and plunging the aircraft into a stall; despite the fuel cocks being shut off, the aircraft sustained major damage upon impact, though fortunately all occupants were safely evacuated without injury.
