Aircraft A-300 AP-BAZ was on a schedule domestic flight PK-300 from Karachi to Islamabad. The departure from Karachi was on time. The weather enroute was fair and the flight was uneventful. Islamabad weather was cloudy with traces of cumulonimbus clouds with light drizzle. After clearance from Cherat, the aircraft started to descend. Light turbulence was felt during descent. The aircraft drifted to the right, skidded and jumped over two cemented platforms constructed about 1-1/2 feet high on the edge of runway to provide support to the aircraft arresting barrier net. The right engine (No.2) came in contact with the F-16 arrester barrier, installed further down, on the shoulder of the over run. The underside of the engine was shorn off and caught fire. The cockpit crew fired the discharge agent which put out the fire and the warning light but smoke persisted due to lubricant etc contacting the hot engine surface. · Once the aircraft stopped, the Captain ordered emergency evacuation of the passengers. None of the passengers was injured during this process, however some cabin crew received minor injuries.
