On 10ᵗʰ December, 2012, a Cessna-172D aircraft operated by Schon Air was scheduled to undertake a training flight on sector Karachi - Gharo - Karachi, with 02 pilots onboard ie one instructor pilot and the other student pilot. The aircraft took off from Jinnah International Airport (JIAP), Karachi and departed to the training area and initiated recovery for JIAP Karachi, as per flight plan. On short finals for runway 25R (JIAP Karachi) Captain informed ATC Tower that they were experiencing engine malfunction and losing engine power. The Captain took actions as per aircraft checklist, but the engine power could not be recovered successfully. Meanwhile, the aircraft speed also started to reduce and the aircraft could no longer maintain straight and level flight. The Captain (Instructor Pilot) made a successful forced landing at Malir Cantt on an unprepared track. Both the cockpit crew remained unhurt; however, the aircraft sustained severe structural damages.
